Last Sunday one of our seniors started her house Bible study for her final time. Brinn, who has been involved in Greek IV since she was a freshman, made an announcement at her chapter meeting, did all of her prep work, and invited girls to come. She told me that she had been somewhat discouraged that more had not happened in the house Bible study over the last few years that she had been leading it.

The first Delta Gamma study had ten girls attend and even more girls were interested in coming! An incredible range of backgrounds were represented at the study: girls who had grown up in Christian homes and Jewish homes, girls who had never been to church growing up, seniors and freshman.

These girls, who all share a common bond of sisterhood, realized they have even more in common. They see now that they all have questions about God and how He is relevant to their lives today. Because of Brinn’s faithfulness, these girls who know everything about each other, now have a place to talk about the things that matter most.

A Delt at Purdue University shares his story of his life was changed by his fraternity brother, his house ministry, and Greek Conference:

“For about the past two years, I had put God on the backburner. I was battling depression and was never happy because of personal situations in my life and the passing of my grandparents. To me God was non-existence because if he was he would not be putting me through so much pain and suffering.”

“However, throughout all of my denial the Lord never gave up on me like I had on him. He put people in my life to get my back on track and return to the Lord. He gave me a great friend named Payton Miller and worked through him constantly. Payton was always around for me to talk to and be that hand pushing me back to the Lord. Payton got me involved with our Bible study, took me to Greek Conference, and was just a figure in my life that I couldn’t continue to push away.”

“Now, I am back on track and in a much better place in my life. I have gone back to church, am involved in two bible studies and am always looking for more ways to find the Lord in my life each day. I thank God that he put a person like Payton in my life to bring me back to faith.”

Katie is a senior in Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Illinois. Her first Greek IV experience was our first Wednesday large group of the semester. Even though she is a senior, this was the first time she had come to Greek IV. Over the years we have had a few Thetas come out to Greek IV, but we have never had a leader in that sorority. After that initial experience, Katie came back to the next Wednesday night large group the following week and brought two friends! She is an inviter and others follow her. Katie connected with a few of our senior women in other sororities at those large group gatherings and she took a step further. Without hesitation Katie registered for Greek Getaway – our 24 hour off campus retreat. Not only did Katie register, but she encouraged her two friends to register as well. They had a great time and now Katie and another sorority sister, Kristen, are planning to start a ministry in Thetas!

As long as we have been at U of I (10 years), there has not been a ministry at Kappa Alpha Theta! Praise God with how He has connected these women with Greek IV. Katie wrote an explanation of why she wants to start a ministry in her sorority…

“My desire to be a leader derives from the profound change that’s happened in my life because of my faith. I want to share my experience and my knowledge with other people who may also be going through difficult times and don’t know where to turn. Especially given that my house has never had a successful, ongoing Bible Study, I want to create a place of discovery that will continue on after I graduate. I feel that leading girls in my house in discussing the most important life quest would be the most significant way I can give back. I want to be a guiding source of light and encouragement in such a formative time in these young women’s lives.”

We are excited to see how God uses Katie’s step of faith to lead a ministry in her sorority. Please pray for Katie and Kristen as they start a house ministry for the first time in Kappa Alpha Theta. We desire to see a house ministry in every fraternity and sorority house on campus led by a student in that house. It is exciting to think a whole new network of sorority women will be exposed to the truth of the gospel.
